Who is the Call Prevention Registry?

The Call Prevention Registry (CPR) is totally independent from any marketing or telephone sales agencies and are funded entirely by our members. This ensures CPR's impartiality and guarantees our obligation to uphold our customer's request for protection from unwanted nuisance calls.

Why we were formed

More than 1.5 billion 'silent' calls and a further 1.5 billion nuisance calls are made to UK domestic households each year with 70% of phone owners saying they have been victim of a phone scam [source: British Crime Survey].

More alarming has been the reported rise in nuisance calls in recent years which has caused great anxiety among certain groups of people, namely the elderly and young women. The Call Prevention Registry was formed in 2005 to help consumers put a stop to these calls by preventing those companies using the telephone as their primary tool to sell their products and services to an uninviting public.

Determined to provide a more efficient and complete service than all existing prevention agencies, including TPS who are limited to restricting telephone usage for UK-only companies, CPR has successfully positioned itself as the ONLY agency that can prevent calls to UK households that are made from this country, overseas, debt collectors and pre-recorded sales messages (many of which are illegal under UK law).

Over the last two years the organisation has been monitoring a number of overseas markets and is currently establishing new operations in North America, Australia and South Africa with plans in place to enter a number of European markets by 2011.
